NODEMASK_ALLOC is used to allocate a nodemask bitmap, and it does it by first determining whether it should be allocated on the stack or dynamically, depending on NODES_SHIFT. Right now, it goes the dynamic path whenever the nodemask_t is above 32 bytes. Although we could bump it to a reasonable value, the largest a nodemask_t can get is 128 bytes, so since __nr_hugepages_store_common is called from a rather short stack we can just get rid of the NODEMASK_ALLOC call here. This reduces some code churn and complexity. Linux kernel

There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
