There's no good reason to crash a user's system with a BUG_ON(), chances are high that they'll never even see the crash message on Xorg, and it won't make it into the syslog either. By using a WARN_ON_ONCE() we at least give the user a chance to report any bugs triggered here - instead of getting silent hangs. None of these WARN_ON_ONCE()s are supposed to trigger, ever - so we ignore cases where a NULL check is done via a BUG_ON() and we let a NULL pointer through after a WARN_ON_ONCE(). Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
